Painting a Dog a Day

November 29th, 2010

Painting a Dog a Day

(or a cat or a horse or a guinea pig... i think you get the picture, right?)

Pretty basic. But who would have thought back in 2006 when I started “Painting a Dog a Day,” that it would grow up into this?

The original premise of Painting a Dog a Day was this - each new day brings about one new pet portrait. A daily newsletter blast shares the paintings with subscribers (subscriptions are free - information is on the blog under “Train Your Email to Fetch” !!). Later on in the day, the blog is updated with a jpg of the painting and the same information that was included in the earlier newsletter. This information could include the animal’s bio, information about my painting process, or something else related to the image.

And proceeds from the daily paintings’ sales benefit animal welfare.

This idea has ripened, over the years inspiring other artists to begin their own daily pet portrait projects and contributing a percentage of their sales, too, to animal welfare. Painting A Dog A Day is the original, going strong for over 4 years, more 1000 portraits, with three published books and more in the works!
